Autism & ADHD Assessments
We provide Autism and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) assessments that are neuroaffirmative and focused on offering clarity and support for those seeking a deeper understanding of themselves. We celebrate neurodiversity and believe that everyone’s brain is unique. Our assessments aim to assist you in recognising and embracing your strengths while providing insight into areas where you may benefit from additional guidance.
We understand that receiving a diagnosis can be a profound life adjustment and we are dedicated to supporting you every step of the way. That’s why we offer a personalised support package designed to help you navigate this new chapter and explore a path forwards.
A Compassionate and Respectful Approach
We know that pursuing an autism or ADHD assessment as an adult can feel like a significant step. You may have gone through life feeling different, misunderstood, or unsure why certain things feel harder for you. We are here to guide you through the process with sensitivity and compassion. Our assessments are comprehensive and designed to provide an accurate, respectful understanding of your neurodivergent traits.
What Does an Assessment Involve?
Our assessments are conducted by experienced Clinical Psychologists who specialise in neurodivergence. The assessment process focuses on recognising and validating your lived experience and embracing neurodiversity as a valuable and natural variation in human functioning. The process typically involves:
- An initial assessment appointment to discuss your experiences and the benefits of exploring a full diagnostic assessment
- A thorough clinical interview to explore your developmental history, current challenges, and strengths. We will engage in collaborative discussions to understand how your experiences impact your life in different contexts, such as work, relationships, and self-care
- With your consent and when possible, we will look to consult others who know you well such as family members in order to inform the assessment process
- Validated screening tools and questionnaires to assess for ASD and/or ADHD traits
- A thorough and detailed report detailing the information gathered, diagnostic outcome and recommendations for future support.
We aim to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of your unique pattern of strengths and differences, helping you make informed decisions about what supports or accommodations might benefit you moving forward.
Support after your assessment
To help you navigate the path ahead, we also offer an optional additional comprehensive post diagnostic support service, thoughtfully designed to provide the guidance and resources you need for the journey forward. Starting with a forward planning session to identify any ongoing areas of support need, our person centred package can include:
- Post-diagnostic support to help you embrace and understand how different aspects of your neurodivergence shape your life, and to empower you in navigating them. This can include exploring strengths and challenges in areas like unmasking, sensory processing, and executive functioning.
- Therapeutic support for mental health difficulties that may be influenced by challenges arising from neurodivergence.
- Workplace liaison to facilitate conversations with employers to support the creation of a neuro-affirmative workplace, including reasonable workplace adjustments.
Celebrating Neurodiversity, Supporting Your Journey
We are proud to offer assessments that celebrate the diversity of the human mind. We believe that understanding neurodivergence is a step toward greater self-awareness, self-compassion, and empowerment. Our goal is to help you feel seen and supported as you navigate life as a neurodivergent individual.
FAQ’s
How do I know if I should seek an assessment for Autism or ADHD?
If you’ve been experiencing difficulties with attention, focus, hyperactivity, organisation, or social interactions, or if you’ve always felt "different" but never had an explanation, it may be worth considering an assessment. Many adults seek assessments after noticing long-standing challenges in areas like relationships, work, or daily life that could be related to autism or ADHD. Our phased approach means that you can attend an initial consultation in the first instance, and following this we can discuss whether it would be helpful to pursue a full diagnostic assessment of autism and/or ADHD.
How long does the assessment process take?
The length of the assessment process varies depending on a number of factors. Typically, it takes between 4 to 6 weeks from the initial consultation to the feedback session, but this can be shorter or longer depending on individual circumstances and availability.
What happens at the end of the assessment?
At the end of the assessment, you will receive a detailed report summarising the findings, including whether a diagnosis of autism or ADHD has been made. This report will also include personalised recommendations for support, accommodations, or further interventions based on your needs.
Is the assessment confidential?
Yes, all information shared during the assessment process is confidential. We adhere to strict ethical and legal standards regarding privacy and confidentiality. The only exceptions are in cases where there is concern for your or someone else’s safety, which will be discussed with you beforehand. We will also liaise with your GP and a copy of the report will be sent to them at the end of the assessment process.
Can I use the assessment for workplace or educational accommodations?
Yes, if you receive a diagnosis of autism or ADHD, the assessment report can be used to support requests for reasonable adjustments in the workplace or educational settings.
Do you offer online assessments?
Yes, we offer online assessments for autism and ADHD through secure video platforms. This allows you to complete the assessment from the comfort of your home while maintaining the same high standards of care and accuracy as in-person assessments.
How much does the assessment cost, and do you accept insurance?
The cost of the initial consultation appointment is £300. Additional costs following this are: £1,200 for an assessment of ADHD, £1,500 for an assessment of autism and £2,600 for a combined assessment of both ADHD and autism.
We are happy to discuss pricing during your initial consultation. We do work with some private insurers, but it is advisable to check with your provider to see if the assessment is covered under your plan.
The pricing above refers specifically to the cost of the assessment of autism and ADHD. Post diagnostic support is an additional optional service and the price of this will depend on the individual’s specific needs.
Do I need a referral to get an assessment?
No, you do not need a referral to start the assessment process. You can contact us directly to schedule an initial consultation. However, if you plan to use private insurance, check with your provider as some may require a referral from a GP or other healthcare professional.
Do you offer combined ADHD and autism assessments?
Yes, we do offer combined assessments for ADHD and autism. During your initial consultation, we will discuss your specific concerns and experiences to determine whether a combined assessment would be beneficial for you.
Do you offer assessments for children?
No, we only provide assessments for individuals aged 18 and over.
Do you offer medication as part of the assessment or treatment?
No, we do not offer medication as part of our services, as we are a psychology-led service and therefore do not have the capacity to prescribe medications. However, if medication is something you are considering, we can provide signposting to qualified prescribers who specialise in ADHD related medication management.
For those interested in medication, many individuals begin treatment privately with a psychiatrist or other prescribing clinician. If you are considering this, it’s important to check whether your GP participates in shared care prescribing. Shared care allows your GP to take over the ongoing management of medication after it has been initially prescribed privately. Not all GP practices offer shared care, so it’s essential to confirm this with your GP before approaching an assessment if you wish to explore options for medication.
Are your assessments approved by NICE?
There is no approval process for completing autism and ADHD assessments in the UK. There are a set of recommended guidelines produced by NICE and groups of healthcare professionals who can appropriately complete autism and ADHD assessments. Our assessments are Clinical Psychologist led, performed to a high standard and meet the recommendations set out in the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines.
